The Future!

Do you still remember when you buy things through Amazon.com, there is a section on the bottom of the screen, which is called “Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought.” This is Recommender System. Recommender system becomes more and more popular and prevalent in this digital age. Computes can know customers want before they buy. Traditional search engine need specific condition that we have already know clearly, it means we have to know what we want and then search engines give us what we want. However, recommender system is evolutionary version of traditional search engine. This system knows what we want before we do or think, it is automatically calculate what we may like in other field. It can help people develop other interest and needs.

I think recommender system is a very amazing and successful invention. It can enlighten other abilities or interests of people that they might not discover yet. It not only predicts the need of customers but also increase the profits of the company. I think recommender system can revolutionize and help my blog a lot. It can show my readers that other related source they may want to see. If I incorporate this system into my blog, more and more readers will view my blog because they develop other interesting habits through my recommender system. Therefore, more and more people could see my blog through recommender system because other website may recommend my blog, and more and more people will enjoy Asian food.

Building readership!

One of the most important steps of running a successful blog is building a good readership. If readers keep reading the blog and post the comment and this blog runs very well. Furthermore, getting new visitors to view the blog is very important. If this blog has only some specific readers, it means the blog does not improve and increase its quality. Therefore, how to increase readership became a very important topic for a new blogger. Here are some improvements I will do in my blog next year.

First, I need to post newsworthy events in time. Sometimes I just write some my personal feeling about Asian food, it was not newsworthy event. Readers will evaluate the value of these events. Newsworthy contents are very crucial for running a good blog and building the readership.

Second, I need to improve my ability of designing. I am not good at art and design, but I think the format and design for a blog is very important. The image is very important for everything. If I can design a good-looking blog or vivid one, it will attract more readers. In addition, I should add more interesting audios or videos into the blog, thus readers will not get bored when they view the blog.

The above ideas that I mentioned are my ideas about how to increase readership. I will try my best to accomplish these improvements. Before doing this, I need you, my friends!! Let’s join the conversation and experience a fantastic blog together!!

Exploring the Asian Food Culture

I enjoyed this video very much. It is very meaningful and can learn more about traditional Asian food. It showed the really traditional Asian market and the source of Asian food. "Snake soup" is very famous and popular in Asain food, on the video, it show how to select a snake and make it into a delicious dish. Traditional Asian market is very crowded and dirty, not like supermarket (e.g. Publix) in the United States. This video can evoke more western people to learn more about Asian food.

Post 7 : Podcast

My topic of my blog is about Asian food in Gainesville, therefore, I chose five related topic in podcast. First one is “Green curry beef stir-fry.” It’s a kind of spicy Tai food, it used sliced beef in green curry sauce. This dish used many kinds of pepper such as red pepper, orange pepper, or green pepper. Jalapeno pepper is especially important to this dish because it will cause spicy taste. It is not common to stir-fried filet beef, but it really tastes good in this cooking way. This dish can get ready in ten minutes. It’s a good and easy dinning at home.

Second one is “Spicy basil chicken.” This dish can be eaten in many restaurants in Gainesville such as Merlion Singapore Cuisine. In podcast, it showed how to cook this dish easily in short time. It used chicken breast with Thai chili pepper and garlic, then fried in oil for a while, it will become a delicious Thai dish same as in the restaurant.

The third one is “Thai iced yea.” It is simpler than any others. Just put 2 oz Currysimple Thai Tea Syrup and water mixing together and can get a cup of great Thai iced tea. I never try this kind of tea before. I will do it by myself after I listened to this piece of podcast.

The fourth one is “Leftover turkey? Make it curry!” Traditional Thanksgiving turkey is very delicious and meaningful to me when I came to GNV last year! Every one reunion together to eat Thanksgiving meal and celebrated my birthday last year. This dish is a little bit different. It heated the yellow curry sauce first and then mixed with the veggie and turkey. It seems like get ready for leftover turkey easily.

The final one is “Spicy basil beef fried rice.” I am a person who enjoyed fried rice very much. Fried rice is very traditional and meaningful to Asian food. In this dish, cut the veggies first (onions, garlic, or peppers), stir-fried with high-quality beef and finally add jasmine rice into it. I think jasmine rice is very important in fried rice dishes. After I listened to podcast, I learned a lot about Asian food and got more information. Podcast is a really convenient tools for me.

Post 6: Learning from module 9

Web skills are very important in this Internet era. Photos and audio materials can promote interactivity among people through the Internet. In this week, I know taking a nice photo is very important for a blogger.
Running a blog well not only depends on the author’s writing words but also on some vivid images to attract readers. Photography and audio materials are especially important tools to create a vivid image. Before this module, I never thought that taking a good photo needs so many skills and knowledge. But now I realized that taking a good photo was not as easy as I thought before. It needs more attention and consideration.
In addition, I enjoyed this module very much because I never use Flickr and have an account. Now I understood that Flickr is so convenient to upload many photos and is a good tool to operate a successful and systematic album. It has many useful functions in Flickr such as interactive function to each photo. I like this function very much because people are not only attractive by these vivid photos and also can share their feedback at the same time. This interactive function is very important to a blogger.
Kodak’s top ten tips for great pictures also helped me a lot, I can took more professional pictures to run my blog and can share my viewpoints about taking pictures with others. Therefore, this module is very useful and enjoyable.

Photography for Suahi Yami

Sushi Yami is a Japanese buffet style restaurant which located on thirteen street in Gainesville. I took many photos about the food, environment, staff and so on. Here are best three shots!

The staff was preparing the sushi bar and this photo combines tip 5 (take some vertical pictures) with tip 7 (move it from the middle).

The customer was trying to choose the dessert. This photo uses tip 8 (know your flesh's range).

Delicious Chinese food and sushi. This photo includes tip 2 (Use a plain background), 4 (Move in close), and 6 (Lock the focus).

The fantacy of Sushi Yami in Gainesville!!

In the selection of Gainesville cuisine, Sushi Yami offers original home-cooked Japanese food for those who want to indulge their senses with the taste of gourmet flavors. Joseph took over ownership of Sushi Yami’s in January 2010. He brings with him practical training from Manhattan in New York City as well as dedication to ensuring that Sushi Yami continues to provide the people of Gainesville with the finest Japanese dining.

Sushi Yami provides Gainesville with fine Japanese food. Located on S.W. 13th Street, Sushi Yami is a high-quality Japanese buffet that is dedicated to offering genuine Japanese food made with only the freshest ingredients.

Joseph buys fresh ingredients at a cost-effective rate so that the best quality does not have to come at the highest price. All of Sushi Yami’s food is made fresh-to-order, so the customer gets exactly what he or she wants to complete the experience of eating a genuine Japanese meal.

In addition, many people who live in Gainesville have also been known to dine at Sushi Yami. It’s a classy, comfortable place to hold meetings with a client or interview potential employees over lunch. Sushi Yami has an extra room that can serve as a more private meeting space. And a meal at Sushi Yami can help a company or a organization discuss of official business and finish the project.

To sum up, Sushi Yami is a good place to enjoy Asian food in Gainesville because its buffet includes Japanese sushi and traditional Chinese food.

The Deep Web

About the topic of this post, I chose a Japanese grill and sushi restaurant to evaluate its website. The following is the restaurant’s link:

http://www.shootingstarrestaurant.com/Shooting_Star/Welcome.html

From the point of view of URL, it definitely corresponds to the name of the restaurant and shows its aspiration to welcome customers. This website is operated by the restaurant, but unfortunately, it did not show any background, biography, or philosophy. Since the restaurant is an official organization, it should show the accountability and responsibility, but the website does not include an e-mail address which can let viewers write e-mails to ask additional questions or make a reservation for future events. In addition, this website, is not like New York Times, it does not provide other related links, blogs, or articles. This will decrease the desire that people want to search about it.

This website is not vivid and interactive enough, it should put more photos about the menu or food to attract viewers to keep searching. This website is very simple and not many other web pages link to this website. Only the main search engine such as Google can link this website easily, and there is also no blogs make a link to this restaurant’s website.

This website does not provide enough information or data to support credibility. It just lists the specials and basic information such as open time and address. It should give viewers more facts to show their features and competitiveness. The web is an open space that everyone can see it, if viewers see so little information and they can not get the message they want, the restaurant’s image will be negative. The website is a good tool for image building and thus increases the profit of the organization. People rely on Internet very much nowadays, website is sometimes more important than published information. Consequently, the owner of this restaurant should pay more attention to operate this website.

The Dragon Boat Festival!

This post I want to introduce one traditional Chinese festival- the Dragon Boat Festival. The Dragon Boat Festival is officially on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month and most Chinese people celebrate it because it is a very important festival in China or Taiwan. Chinese people commemorate a very famous poet - Qu Yuan. Due to he fell into despair and threw himself into the Milou River, and he was so loved by the people, fishermen rushed out in long boats, beating drums to scare the fish away, and throwing zong zi – a pyramid-shaped mass of glutinous rice wrapped in leaves, into the water to feed fish so that they would not eat Qu Yuan's body. Therefore, people celebrate Qu Yuan’s death anniversaries by eating zong zi and row the dragon boat every year. That’s origin of the Dragon Boat Festival.

We TWSA (Taiwanese Students Association) hold activities for the Dragon Boat Festival every year. This year is no exception. We will invite all Taiwan people at UF to Lake Wauberg on Saturday, June 12 to eat zong zi together. After eating zong zi, people can go to lake to row the boat and have race. This is a good opportunity to let Taiwanese people get together and keep good relationships.

Zong zi is a traditional Chinese food - the main ingredient of zong zi is the glutinous rice. It is wrapped with the bamboo or reed leaves and makes Zong Zi different from other types of Chinese dumplings. In addition, you can add anything you like into rice such as egg, meat, or chestnuts. Zong zi is a very special Chinese food and it tastes great. Therefore, I hope readers can love it!
